Protected Landscape Management Plans Database

Our response to the issue: Development & Planning
Objective Regional Summary of Key Actions

A land use planning system that positively supports the designation and works consistently across the AONB/NP.

Work with regional and local partners to ensure the purposes and objectives of AONB designation are fully recognised in the development and implementation of Regional Spatial Strategies, Local Development Frameworks and other public policies, strategies and programmes.

Work with the local planning authorities and use Planning Protocols and criteria to ensure the highest levels of performance in the AONB/NP, so that the planning system works in a positive way to enhance the AONB/NP as well as to protect it.

Ensure new development incorporates appropriate sustainability elements and designs maintain or improve the existing level of tranquillity.

Encourage development and use of design guides to promote the use of high quality design, materials and standards of workmanship in all developments.

Remove, reduce and avoid intrusive and degrading features.

Monitor the changes in the planning system and within the proposed local area plans to ensure that the AONB's interests are met.

Reduce the growth and impacts of traffic on the AONB through Local Transport Plans and Rural Roads Protocol.
